The Movement for Global Mental Health aims to improve services for people with mental disorders worldwide. In so doing, two principles are fundamental: first, the action should be informed by the best available scientific evidence; and, second, it should be in accordance with principles of human rights.

 

Sangath

 

Sangath is a non-governmental, non-profit organization committed to improving health across the life-span. Its primary focus areas are child development, adolescent and youth health, and mental health.

 

Sangath was registered as a non profit organization in 1996, through the voluntary contributions of its seven founder-members. Its mission is to promote health, with a focus on three areas-child development, adolescent and youth health, and mental health. Over the last 14 years Sangath has grown to become one of Goa's most influential health NGOs with achievements which have garnered local, national and international recognition

Africa Mental Health Foundation

The AMHF is a Non-Governmental organization licensed to operate both locally and regionally. It was conceptualized in 2000 by Prof. David M. Ndetei, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and registered on 18th March 2004.

 

BasicNeeds UK in Kenya

BasicNeeds is a global mental health organisation, which works with people with mental illness or epilepsy in the developing world to alleviate their poverty and help them secure their basic rights

 

The organisation was established 1999, by Chris Underhill MBE, who had worked with mental health organisations in Africa for over 25 years and arrived on the continent in the early 1970s with VSO .

 

Since its foundation the organisation has helped over 78,000 people with mental illness or epilepsy as well as their families and carers in India, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Colombia and Lao PDR, and has recently started programmes in Vietnam and Nepal

 

Carritas Kenya - Nyeri

Caritas Kenya, the relief and social development arm of the Kenya Episcopal Conference and a member of Caritas Internationalis, works to address humanitarian and social problems in Kenya; it is supported by CAFOD, CRS, Cordaid, Trócaire, Misereor Caritas Switzerland and Luxembourg and Caritas Australia.
